Delicious and unique, this 8 year old craft whiskey distilled in New York is what craft whiskey is all about.

Two Souls Spirits is an independent bottler headed by James Estrada and Chad Civetti. Known as “The Whiskey Doctor,” Estrada has written for Bourbon Sippers and co-hosts the Whiskey Uncut Podcast. According to Two Souls Spirits, they intend to “curate craft spirits from across the United States,” that are “big, bold, 100% uncut and unfiltered, and exceptionally rare.”

Finger Lakes Distilling has their own line of whiskeys under their McKenzie line and serves as a source for other brands including as a noticeable component in Pursuit United. Finger Lakes Distilling’s whiskeys have a very unique flavor profile, and one that could be described as love it or hate it. I tend to lean towards the former, and this particular cask that Two Souls Spirits selected highlights some of the best qualities Finger Lakes Distilling has to offer. It has a rich, funky undertone throughout that is most likely made possible by its fairly high 8 years in oak; keeping in mind this is a craft whiskey and near the top of what we are seeing for craft whiskey age statements. It’s accented by orange citrus, cinnamon, green apple, and more traditional sweet notes that make for an incredibly unique drinking experience, potentially due in part to its wheated mashbill and 100 entry proof. Put simply, this is what craft bourbon is all about.

The bottle in review comes from barrel 1563, bottle 112 out of 113 bottles. It has a fill date of 2/6/2014 and a bottle date of 11/17/2022.
