Standard Proof Whiskey Co. Rye is an easy sipping rye that is ultimately held back due to its proof.

Standard Proof Whiskey Co. is based out of Nashville, Tennessee. Known for its wide range of infused rye products, the company also offers a 5-year-old single barrel rye in addition to the 80 proof rye. Their batched rye is straightforward, containing a low rye mashbill that produces a nice mix of flavors. Thanks to its lower 80 proof, Standard Proof Whiskey Co. Rye drinks incredibly light, which ends up holding back the flavors that are present. The sip opens with light and youthful notes that transition to more refined sweeter and traditional flavors in the palate. It ends short with a touch of spice and sweetness. Overall it’s not a bad rye by any means, however, the choice to proof down and bottle the rye at 80 proof will ultimately narrow Standard Proof Whiskey Co. Rye’s market to those who prefer a light, lower proof whiskey.

The bottle being reviewed is number 216 from batch 118.
