Created from a blend of straight bourbons, the initial release from Four Branches Bourbon has a hard time standing out in a crowded field.
To create Founders Blend, the company states that they partnered with Steve Nally, who is the Master Distiller at Bardstown Bourbon. The whiskey consists of 4-7 year old bourbons that produce a four grain mashbill thanks to the three different mashbills that the blend is composed of.
Considering it's a blend of three different mashbills, Founders Blend starts on a surprisingly light note. The nose highlights an earthy aroma that is comprised of light scents of vanilla, hay, fresh peanuts, and oak. Thankfully, the midpoint picks up the slack, highlighting a very pleasing and enjoyable sweet palate that showcases spice notes along with canned peaches, syrup, and cinnamon. The finish swings back closer to the nose, highlighting bell pepper, faint oak, and rye spice that is incredibly short. While the bourbon as a whole is more simplistic than most, considering the blended components, I expected more from Founders Blend for the price being charged.
