A bourbon that further showcases Barrell Craft Spirits’ blending capability.
Now 35 batches deep, Barrell Craft Spirits has proven their ability to blend batch after batch to pleasing results. According to the company, “Barrell Bourbon Batch 035 is a blend of 6, 7, 8, and 13-year-old bourbons. A multi-mashbill blend of 6 and 7-year-old spicy and earthy, high-rye, high-proof, oak forward barrels was combined with a blend of 8-year-old softer, lower-proof barrels with concentrated notes of dark cherry and butterscotch. After mingling for two months, 13-year-old barrels with dominant fruit flavors were layered in. A portion of these barrels had more tropical fruit notes and the other portion showed more dried and candied fruit notes.”
Batch 035 kicks things off with an inviting nose filled with sweet flavors of caramel, anise, and candy corn. Graham cracker, caramel creams, creme brulee, toffee, Milky Way candy bar, buttered cornbread, and cocoa comprise the deliciously sweet palate. Continuing the sweet theme, buttercream frosting emerges up front the well balanced finish, followed by caramel and baking spices.
While all of Barrell’s bourbon batches have been consistently good to date, some occasionally emerge as more dialed in than usual. Batch 035 is one of those batches, hitting the right notes and balance one might envision a sweet-forward high proof bourbon would ideally deliver. As a result, it’s a must have for Barrell Bourbon fans who enjoy a sweet-forward pour.
