Offering a peek behind the curtain with detailed barrel information, Spirit Hound Colorado Whiskey is a light American Singlealt whiskey from the distillery out of Lyons.

Spirit Hounds Distillers is based out of Lyons, Colorado, and has been distilling their own spirits since 2012. Spirit Hound Colorado Whiskey is a straight malt whiskey that uses barley grown and malted in Alamosa, Colorado, along with adding in an undefined amount of peated malt. The company’s flagship whiskey is a single barrel product, and the company’s website has a barrel search tool that allows consumers to look up very detailed information on the barrel from which their bottle is from, which is a nice nod to transparency.

While the age listed on the bottle is 2 years old, the company’s website states that the whiskey officially sat in the barrel for 2 years and 351 days. While those extra days are nice to know, there’s no escaping father time, which is conveyed throughout the sip. The whiskey starts with light notes of summer fruits along with a layer of vanilla and oak. That lightness carries through to the palate, which offers a thin mouthfeel that’s full of white peppercorn spice and the familiar notes of peaches and cream along with vanilla and oak. The whiskey finishes with those same flavor notes and packs up its bags quickly as it’s on the shorter side. Overall, it’s not a whiskey that delivers off-putting flavors, but for the price, you’d expect more, especially as it tries to stand out in the quickly rising malt whiskey market in America.

The bourbon in review is bottle number 46 from barrel number 310.
