Giving real meaning to the term estate-distilled bourbon, Jeptha Creed Red, White & Blue Straight Bourbon Batch 2 tastes wholly original and genuinely artisanal.
Jeptha Creed Distillery is located in Shelbyville, Kentucky and is operated by mother and daughter team Joyce and Autumn Nethery. The farm distillery sits on 64 acres and produces a number of grains for their bourbons, including an impressive amount of heirloom crops. Three of these heirloom grains are where the bourbon gets its name: red for Bloody Butcher corn, white for white corn, and blue for Bruce’s blue corn. These colors also correlate to the colors of the American flag, and because of this connective tissue, Jeptha Creed Distillery donates a portion of the proceeds of this release to USA Cares, a veteran and family support system organization.
In a lot of ways, Jeptha Creed Red, White & Blue Straight Bourbon Batch 2 is more of the same as Batch 1, but that’s a good thing. With only a single sip, you’ll instantly taste that there’s something unique going on with this bourbon. There’s an earthiness to it like you get from a good Mezcal, except without all of the smokiness. As such, this bourbon tastes like what you’d expect an estate-made bourbon to taste like. Full of dark fruits, roasted nuts, and brown butter on the palate, followed by earthy leather, tobacco, and root vegetables on the finish, really makes this bourbon stand out from the pack. It likely won’t be for everyone, but if you’re sick of cookie-cutter bourbons, Jeptha Creed Red, White & Blue Straight Bourbon Batch 2 continues to be a refreshing change of pace.
